Application for ACA Transmitter Control Code (TCC)

If you've worked with the IRS for any length of time, I don't need to tell you that nothing is as it seems and it's never easy.  Perhaps this is just one of the facts of life when you are part of a giant bureaucracy that has long forgotten what the word efficiency means.

The Application for an ACA TCC requires you to enter one "responsible official" no less than two "contacts".  It's obvious that the responsible official has to be registered with e-services, after all, the responsible official has to login to e-services before they can complete the ACA TCC application.

What is not abundantly clear is that the contacts have to also be registered with e-services.  There is no explanation as to why contacts have to be registered with e-services, but if they are not, then when you attempt to submit your application it will be rejected.

In our case, even after having all our contacts registered with e-services, our application was still rejected.

We've had to call the ACA AIR help desk three times in an attempt to resolve certain issues and none of these have been a pleasant experience.  (FYI, the ACA AIR help desk phone number is 1-866-937-4130.)  Most of the time, you get the distinct impression that the person on the other end of the phone has no idea what you are talking about.  It seems their policy is to take your name and number and turn it over to someone who actually understands the process and have them call you back.

We're still trying to get our application for TCC submitted so that we can being participating in the e-file testing for 2014 returns.  Hopefully... soon.
